Internships are offered during
the Spring and Fall at DOZ in order to provide the best fit for
the intern. Spring internships are January through
March (for audit) and through April
15 (for tax), and Fall internships are September through December.
The real benefit of any firm's accounting internship opportunity is that
interns are treated as if they are first year staff accountants. However, at
DOZ, because of the nationwide market area, the opportunity the intern receives
to perform "hands-on" work is without peer. The bottom line-the best way to
learn how to audit or prepare and consult on tax returns, is to simply "just do
it"-perform a lot of audits and tax returns! See the number of audits and tax
returns DOZ spring interns work on below.
In addition, weekly evaluations and
bi-weekly one on one Saturday morning busy
season meetings with a Principal make certain all interns are progressing and
receiving timely feedback.
Audit
Last year, Spring audit interns each worked over 600 hours and each had a hand
in completing 40 audits. On some of these audits, the interns planned the
work, performed the work and wrote the final reports! The opportunity to work
on all areas of the audits better prepared DOZ interns for their
upcoming audit class and provided "real life" examples to help them better
understand the audit class already taken.
Audit interns performed work in some of the best and biggest cities in the USA
, including Las Vegas, New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle, Atlanta,
Phoenix, and many more.
Tax
Last year, Spring tax Interns worked over 600 hours and completed an average of
150 tax returns in the 3½ month internship period!
All this while working an
average of 55 hours per week!
Spring tax interns prepared partnership, individual, personal property tax and
corporate tax returns. Interns worked directly with Members as well as all
others in the tax department.
